Our work teams program utilizes groups of youth and adults that come to the House of the Carpenter, primarily in the summer, to do ADA Ramp construction and installation projects. The House of the Carpenter uses a modular system to provide these ramps. A handbook on the process is available at the House of the Carpenter. The projects are recommended to the House of the Carpenter by a variety of agencies, churches, and individuals. Gary Bryant, Bill Wade, Les Milton, Steve Durrah, and Dave Blowers work to coordinate the groups who visit, evaluate the projects at hand, select the projects included taking into account the skills of the group coming and the cost of the project.
Each team provides financial resources for the project during the time they are present. At times, the program will expand to work with college groups on alternative spring breaks and with local churches on smaller projects within their communities. We are working in coordination with Kiwanis Fresh Air Farms to provide lodging upon availability for incoming work teams.
