Literacy Camp is held during the summer and encourages children to take part in hands-on, fun learning activities and reading. The program is set up for children ages six to 12 years of age. We partner with individuals and groups from around the Ohio Valley to share fun educational programming. We also provide teen mentors who serve as role models and assist the campers during the program. Adult leaders are also available to give guidance to both the children and teen mentors.
Some of the educational programs in the past have been provided by Grow Ohio Valley, WVU Extension office Nutrition and Conservation, a Native re-enactor, Oglebay Zoo, a Viking re-enactor, Fire Department, Christian Education, the EPA, Self Esteem and Working together. Participants receive breakfast, lunch, and reading assistance during breaks. Every day, each child is able to choose a book according to their reading level and interest for their very own. Local churches provide meals for the children and volunteers.
This year Literacy Camp will take place July 23-27. For more information or to register please contact Michelle Lucarelli, 304-233-4640.
