Volunteers are at the very heart of our ministry here at the House of the Carpenter. In fact, without volunteers, it would be impossible for many of our ministries to take place. We greatly appreciate our wonderful volunteers, but we often find there is always a need for more. Volunteers not only provide a significant portion of the ministry, they are often the primary contact for our neighbors, helping them to know and appreciate that people care about them.
Below are just a few of the ways you can get involved here at the House of the Carpenter:
First and foremost, we believe the ministry we do would not be possible without the grace and presence of God. We are so thankful for those who lift up prayers for our ministries, staff and volunteers, and the neighbors we serve. We are always seeking people to pray personally, in their communities of faith, and in the greater community at large. We truly believe ours is a ministry built upon prayer.
HELP OUT “AROUND THE HOUSE”
Whatever your gifts, skills, and passions may be, we’ve got a way for you to be involved in bringing about change in our community. We are always looking for people to volunteer in various ways, some of which include the following:
Thrift Store, Underwear Room, Food Pantry, Souper Bowl of Caring, Back Pack Program, Potato Drop, Work Teams, Maintenance, The “House” Garden, School Supply Drive, Office Assistance, Mailings, After School Tutoring Program, Leadership Academy Mentor, Pre-Work Program, Christmas Kids, Kids in the Kitchen, Adult Cooking Classes, Vacation Bible School, KWEST Day Camp, Summer Camp, Literacy Camp, Mission Camp, Strings Ministry, and much more…
But what if you aren’t able to physically volunteer on campus? We’re glad you asked! The House of the Carpenter has an operating budget of $750,000, which covers ministries, staffing and overhead costs. While we do write grants and receive donations from a number of organizations, most of our donations come from people who believe in what we do and wish to provide financial support to ensure our ministries continue.
All types of giving are important and every gift helps us to make a significant difference in our community and in the lives of those we serve. Some people or groups choose to donate annually or give to a specific project. There are a significant number of people who support the House of the Carpenter on a month-to-month basis. Whether you can give a little or give a lot, your generosity helps us to continue to open our doors day after day.
The House of the Carpenter also has a General Endowment that is invested with the United Methodist Foundation in Charleston. This is money set aside from donations specified for the Endowment to help build a base that will allow us to continually expand our ministry for years to come.
